DJ Carlito: Malaysian 60s Pop Research Project

Today BoingBoing has posted details on a travel project by DJ Carlito. He has a deep interest in Pop Yeh Yeh, a 60s Malaysian music genre influenced by Western pop music of the time. He is currently trying to raise $3,500 by May 15th to travel to the country. There he will not only attempt to increase his vinyl collection, but meet some of his favourite artists and share their music and stories with the rest of the world.

I find this project exciting because of the chance to discover the East-meets-West retro music of Malaysia and the vibrant graphic design of the vinyls. And, of course, I love Malaysia! Here’s hoping he earns enough money to begin his journey. Donate here.
